Say hi to 'Pugsley." Pugsley you can see is a most adorable pug who is about 9 years old. He was diagnosed with diabetes about one year ago and his wonderful family keep him healthy and feeling good with insulin that they administer twice daily. Diabetes - early symptoms - can be increased thirst and urination, increased hunger with weightloss. Diabetes is caused by glucose staying in the bloodstream. Carbohydrates are broken down into sugars - the most important being glucose - which the body uses for energy. Glucose is used by the cells with the action of the hormone - insulin - with a shortage of insulin the glucose stays in the bloodstream and the condition diabetes mellitus develops. Many cats and dogs are diagnosed with diabetes and it can be a very manageable disease. This picture was taken when Pugsley recently boarded with us. ♥
